As baseball fans you have noticed that some pitchers with good ERA's have less luck (no run support) and poor win/loss records than other pitchers that have higher ERA's but seem to always get the run support to win. I just played a game that went into the top of 8th inning and was 4 to 3. Calvin Schiraldi was brought in to hold them for his team to try to get the tying run or perhaps 2 for the win. However what he did was to allow 4 solo homers so his team was behind by 8 to 3 going into the bottom of the 8th. What happens is that run support luck, does he have it, for this game yes!!! His team puts a 9 spot on the board and the next reliever in the top of the 9th does not allow a run!!!! Calvin gets the undeserved win rather than Atlee Hammaker who pitched 7 pretty good innings for his team.
Also the other team's pitcher, Art Nehf, who pitched the whole game giving up the 12 runs got bit by the baseball bad luck bug. Only 7 of the runs were earned, so if his defense had played better he still should have won the game; but as it turned out they didn't and he lost.
