I have set my pinch hit slider to maximum when team is behind from seventh inning on but about 40% of the time, the pitcher is still allowed to bat in the 8th and 9th innings even though his team is behind, even with runners on base that can tie or win the game.

It seems like the no pinch hitter situations for the pitcher happen when the team is behind by 3 or more runs rather than 1 or 2 behind. You would think that if they were further behind, the manager would be more rather than less likely to use a pinch hitter! However it should be pinch hitting for the pitcher in most situations where the team is behind in the 8th or 9th inning.

Another thing I have noticed about this oddity of the manager not pinch hitting for the pitcher when behind in the late innings, is that when the pitcher does bat many times he is removed from the line-up immediately when his team takes the field. That doesn't make sense at all, if he is not going to pitch the next inning, why oh why?!? was he not pinch hit for, I know there were better hitters available when he came to bat.
