I noticed something about a player's defense rating and was wondering about it. if you go into the sub-screen during the game for a defensive sub who is not to be used in his best defensive position(s), I have noticed that the diamond layout on that sub-screen does not show his adjusted (lower) defensive stats but rather displays his primary defense rating when he is placed in that defensive position. When I realized this was happening, I experimented in one game by putting all my players for 1 team in their worst defensive positions to see if I could tell whether the game was actually using the lower adjusted defense ratings or not. I only had two errors for that team during the game, so the results were inconclusive about whether the lower defensive ratings are being used or not! Has anyone else noticed this situation and determined what stats the system is actually using for defensive sub not in his best position.

I must first confess that I have never done specific testing for this deliberate mis-assignment as you have.
That said, I HAVE put people in positions that they are poorly rated in, and I found them to play poorly. I had someone pinch-hit for a position player in the 7th and forgot to swap them out for someone of the correct position. Essentially, I took a UO and he pinch hit for the catcher, but when we returned to the field, I accidentally left that outfielder in as the catcher. In 2 innings he made 2 errors. I've put people in wrong positions before (when I realized I had no backup 3rd baseman and had no choice but to sub them with someone who plays 1B/LF) and I DID notice significantly reduced, poor field performance- from comments showing "He should have gotten to that ball" and the like, to outright Errors.
That's not scientific proof, but it's enough for me to try and avoid it whenever possible.

The only time, when I may changed or added the fielding position was during the drafting period... Mainly, because of having a young player or veteran already playing that position...
I noticed that after applying the changed the new position become an equal to the original position... in an example, let say, the great Willie Mays... when I added the new position as playing SS, after I drafted him and played one season in the minors... he became just as great as being a SS as he was playing CF... (of course, I kept him as a CF - just using him as an example)...
For any other players playing in another position, with lower ratings, I ended up with lot of prayers... I tend to agree with FS's assessment of his experienced within the Game... I don't messed around with it unless one has experienced playing in the outfielder with another position of RF, CF, and LF ... or SS with 2nd... or 3rd with first... and Catcher by itself...
And That's Baseball...

Yes, good point- I have and would again swap in outfielders into an outfield position they're not designated for. I've put LF/RF in CF and any other combination therein; the same for most IF positions, but with a twist. I consider 1B and 3B close enough, same with 2B and SS.
