C'mon, I know we have some good writers here, so give me some competition. I know I can't be the only one who is enjoying the game right now, so let's hear about some other associations being played. My method of play has become standard for me, so what about the other possibilities presented by Pure Sim? How about someone trying my method with a different team and a different time period, say the early 1920s or the mid 1960s?
Here's what I do:
1. Select a beginning year
2. Use 60-man rosters (better to begin with 50-man rosters if you start prior to WWII)
3. Use early draft entry, age-based durability, and true-life development
4. Allow injuries and AI trades
5. Restrict my trades to player for player deals
6. NO financials prior to 1977
7. Manage every game of my human-selected team

I'm no writer. I could try and post the occasional screen shot if somebody explains how to do one. At the moment, I am in my second season with the Rangers. Started in 72, now in may 73. I'm trying to build around a corps group using my house rules.
Current Starting Lineup....... 1B Don Mincher. On his way down. 2B Lenny Randle. On his way down. 3B Dave Nelson. Steady but aging. Top base stealer. SS Toby Harrah. Solid. Want long term. C Dick Billings. Steady but aging. LF Jeff Burroughs. Solid. Want long term. CF Elliot Maddox. Temp. Looking for long term solution. RF Larry Biitner. Temp. Looking for long term solution. DH Frank Howard. Solid but aging. As long as he keeps hitting, no worries.
Bench.... 1B/OF Mike Hargrove. Currently backs up OF and DH depending on RH or LH P. 1B no matter P. Should be starting 1B by beginning of next season. 2B/SS Ted Kubiak. Back up for 2B, 3B and SS depending on RH or LH P. 3B/2B Bill Madlock. Same as Kubiak. Might be ready to take over 2B next season. C Jim Sundberg. Back up depending on RH or LH P. Might be ready to take over next season, possible platoon. C Hal King. Same as Sundberg.
SP1 Dick Bosman. Has potential for short to mid term. SP2 Pete Broberg. Temp. SP3 Bill Gogolewski. Temp. SP4 David Clyde. Temp. SP5 Don Stanhouse. Temp.
RP Jim Shellenback Temp. RP Steve Foucalt Temp RP Horacio Pina Potential for short to mid term. RP Mike Paul Potential for short to mid term. RP Rich Hand Temp Spot Starter also.
CL Paul Lindblad
At the moment, it is closer by committee with Pina.
Minor League Prospects...... 3B Roy Howell OF Ellis Valentine SS/2B Jim Mason 1B Doug Ault 3B/2B Mike Cubbage 2B/CF Vic Harris OF Mike Easler OF/1B Jack Clark C Ernie Whitt
SP/RP Vern Ruhle Bob Knepper J.R. Richard Rick Waits Larry Anderson Ron Guidry
The other minor leaguers will only make it up due to a lot of injuries. Those listed may or may not make it up. Guidry is listed as a RP so it makes me wonder if the game will automatically increase his endurance or if he comes up, will I have to give him spot starts to work on it. There is no guarantee those listed will make it up. they are the ones listed with a decent amount of potential. All others were a one. I am using 60 man rosters.
In the draft, I had planned on getting Jack Clark to build a power OF. Cleveland drafted him ahead of me, so I drafted Knepper. I recently traded major league ready IF Roy Smalley for him. I doubt I will make any other trades this season unless I get a good offer, which is not likely because they are usually aging salary dumps, unless I get offered a Hank Aaron or somebody like that and it won't cost me a corps player I want for long term. I did better last season than I thought, but not as good this season so far, which is ok because I didn't figure to make any serious competition for a few seasons, maybe more. Depends on how well my minors come along to be ready to step in. It looks right now that Ruhle and Knepper will be ready to start next season. Player wise, Howell is the only one that looks like he might have a chance for the bench. It all depends on what numbers I get in the off season.
