I decided to sim a test season before starting my dynasty. All the stats look good, except for stolen bases. I set up a 24 team league in 2005, 162 games. Stolen bases seem to be at the level it was in the 1930s through the 50s. My top stealer had 30. Not a big deal and I can live with it, but I would like to see more stealing. Anyone got any advice?

I think this is something that Shaun did some tweaking on, as in earlier associations I had unusually high numbers in SBs for my best runners. I love using the SB, so he made it a bit more difficult. I have no problem with it, as it forces me to play more realistically. In managing my games, I had a nasty tendency to take advantage of opposing catchers with poor/average arm ratings. I don't know if it was just me, but I've posted dynasty reports for several years, and every year I lead the majors in SBs.

I use a house rule that any runner with speed 10 below C's Arm or better, they try to steal second regardless of the score. I never try to steal third since they are in scoring position on second. I also usually lead the majors in SBs and currently with the 87 Yankees, have three of the top five, but the lead at the beginning of Aug is Vince Coleman. It was really cool a few games ago, the opposing C had a low arm, 48 I think and Winfield with a speed of 38 actually atole three bases that game giving him a total of three on the year so far. Last time against that C, he got one chance and was caught. I don't try to steal with anybody, just stick to the numbers and it makes sense that Rickey Henderson would lead the team in steals. Willie Randolph and Claudell Washington aren't far behind.
