CLEVELAND INDIANS SEEK FAN FEEDBACK ON CHIEF WAHOO LOGOThe intensifying debate over the Washington Redskins nickname seems to have prompted at least one other professional club, the Cleveland Indians, to reassess their usage of Native American imagery in their logo. At the end of every season, the Cleveland Indians survey the fans on a variety of topics. This year's survey included a question about their well-known Chief Wahoo logo.
The image was shown with a number of statements listed below that fans were asked to rate on a scale of 5 responses ranging from "Strongly Disagree" to "Strongly Agree." The statements the fans were asked to rate were: "This logo reflects the heritage of the Indians," "I feel a strong positive emotional connection to this logo," "This logo makes me proud of the Indians," "This logo represents more than the team - it represents the city of Cleveland," and "This logo is an important part of my support for the Indians."
The survey, which was sent to those who had purchased tickets from the team's website or had registered with the site, also asks for fans' opinions on the team's other logos. Though the team earlier this year stated they do not plan on phasing out Chief Wahoo, the survey question indicates that the club might be looking at a potential change.

Leave it alone. I have followed/supported THE TRIBE since the late 1940's/early 1950's. I am tired of this "P.C. culture" that is taking over this country. P.C. stands for Petty Crap IMHO.

I think Chief Yahoo is cheesy. Look at him there, just grinning at you like an idiot.
I don't agree with the PC crowd, but a nice stylized 'C' similar to Cincinnati or the Cubs would work for me.
Personally I think we can please the PC crowd AND move forward by changing our name to the 'Spiders.' Think of it, giant spiders moving across a modern scoreboard. Little wire spiders for sale in all the team shops: Scare your neighbor at the game! PETA would probably protest us exploiting indigenous spiders, but we're used to protestors.
Plus, no matter how badly things got, management could always say "We're not the worst Spiders team in history."

catknight...you're on fire tonight. Your "Look at him there, just grinning at you like an idiot." and ""We're not the worst Spiders team in history."" comments cracked me up.

The reason I say don't change it is so they don't give in to the PC crowd. Just like politicians, unions, etc, once they get one thing they want, then they start looking for more. As long as you keep giving in, they will continue to look for something.

Maybe the MLB should just go ahead and do the Rollerball (1975) thing. Each team is owned by a corporation and you just cheer for the city/corporation.

Looks like Cleveland is serious about replacing Chief Wahoo...even eliminating Chief Wahoo from history. Notice how the current logo for Cleveland is used, even though the correct versions of the Marlins ('97 & '03) and Diamondbacks ('01) are used...

They will cave to the PC crowd. People don't have the balls for most things anymore. Tampa should have stayed the Devil Rays too.

Nah, I really don't think so. At least not short-mid term. There are protestors at almost every Indians game, never more than a dozen. If they were going to cave I think it would've happened by now.
Maybe they're waiting to see what Atlanta and the Redskins do.

I like this guy, Chief Noc-A-Homa, who was the iconic Mascot of the Atlanta Braves for approx. 20 years, sporting a head-dress and buckskin while performing “ good l uck” dance before games, but mainly dancing (in jubilation and celebration) after Atlanta Braves batters would "knock a homer" over the fence at the old Fulton County Stadium. Sadly, the Braves were not so great in those days. Still, the Chief lived in a teepee in the outfield seats before he finally got sacked in 1986. While some say owner (and Media Mogul) Ted Turner made the change to appease politically correct sensitivities, it was more likely because of $$$. Removing the Chief opened up hundreds of additional seats!!
