Dusty has always been a solid mate, with solid credentials ... with a World Series Champ, to his credit ... but unfortunately, there's a fine line between a winner and an almost ... he just happened to be, one of those mates, to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time ... somebody has to be number two ...
I believed the best managers are the managers who knows pitchers and in the way to handled them ... THEY are the bread makers ... fine example : Valentine or Farrell ...

Tomas, it's just too bad that in the real world there is no place for the number 2 guy. The world of professional sports can be brutal. Glad that in the world of virtual baseball text sims we can always use the option of not being fired. Especially for me, who, though I enjoy playing baseball text sims, really suck at playing them...  |

I'm not surprised by this at all. Dusty was disliked by many Reds fans, and the loss in the wild card game was his undoing.

I lived San Jose, California during the 2002 World Series and I can still remember after 16 to 4 Game 5 win of the World Series people all over the Bay Area were ready to celebrate the World Series Championship. Of course we all know what Dusty did and did not do in in Game 6 which lead to Game 7. If you do not remember...Leading 5-0 heading into the bottom half of the seventh inning in Game 6, Baker and the Giants found a way to lose by a final score of 6-5 in favor of the Angles. So, a do-or-die Game 7 took place the next day. The heated game was tied at one through two innings before the Angels exploded for a three-run third inning that ultimately propelled the Angels (and the Rally Monkey) to a World Series championship. Which had the Most of the Bay area out in droves with their pitchforks  to get rid of Dusty. Then in 2003, to watch Dusty once again fail with the Cubs was a sad site, but a sadder site was watching some of the Giants fans celebrate Dusty's loss. Even to this day, when I travel back to San Jose for business, there are some people in the Bay area that claim that the only reason the Giants lost the 2002 World Series was all due to Dusty and no player was responsible.
But hey, there is a positive side...even with Dusty's tragic 2002 World Series, Baker is still a beloved figure by many in San Francisco. Heck, if you remember, the Giants fans at AT&T Park cheered Baker as his name was announced in Games 1 and 2 of the 2012 ALDS, even though the Reds took both games that year. So Dusty is still loved by many a Giants fan today...but not as beloved as Bruce Bochy  .
Of course, as themonk mentioned, there really is no place in this world for a Number Two person...

I think part of the reason he is disliked is that he is a bit outspoken. Wasn't it not that long ago that he made comments on more than one occasion that miffed a large portion of the public? I don't really have that much of an opinion on him one way or the other except that I have felt he was always overrated.
Valentine, never liked him, his attitude stinks thinking he was more important than anybody else in the world and he wasn't very good to begin with. Why the Red Sox bothered to give him another shot was mind boggling.
Ones I like, Washington, Larussa (spelling), Torre, Cox, Maddon and who could really not be entertained by Billy Martin or any of the others who kicked dirt on the umps?

I completely forgot about this classic Dusty Baker quote from 2003..."It's easier for most Latin guys and it's easier for most minority people because most of us come from heat," Baker said. "You don't find too many brothers in New Hampshire and Maine and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. ... We were brought over here for the heat, right? Isn't that history? Weren't we brought over because we could take the heat?"
Baker said he won't address the issue any further. "People have accused me of being sensitive, but maybe they're too sensitive," he said. "I'm not elaborating on it any more. End of topic. I said what I mean." |

LMAO ... Yeah, I remembered that quote ... that was a silly thinking, as much as saying, that the Northern teams can handled the cold better because their lighter skin ... sheeze  ... unfortunately, it would be much wiser to say these things without the medias around  ...

Dusty has always been hit or miss with me...He has been known to wear out arms too.
But I think he'll get another shot somewhere. Maybe it's time for him to trip over to the AL.

I'd read somewhere that Dusty might have been a little too laid back WITH HIS PLAYERS. IE- in general he had a good relationship with them, but when it came to crunch time (notably the last two years) he couldn't light a fire under them.

I have never been a fan of Dusty, ever since he single handedly ruined the Cubbies pitching staff. I know he is not the only reason for the Cubs failures, but still I need to dislike someone for it. :-)
On a side note, I have heard that he is a players manager. I just don't think he knows how to win the big one or if his teams are just managed up during the regular season. Either way, I don't see Dusty managing in the Majors for awhile.
