I just wanted to stop by and say hello to my friends here at PureSim. I have been off playing OOTP, but every once in awhile I have the urge to fire up PureSim. While OOTP is much more in depth, I do miss the simplistic set up of PureSim.
Can any help me get started in with a fictional association so that I don't end up getting frustrated for things going off course?

I had to kill my Rangers association. I finished last in 72 and I decided to try and build a team with a power OF. I already had Jeff Burroughs, so my first pick was Jack Clark, not ML ready for a few seasons. Had Burroughs signed for five more years. At the end of 73, I had improved to next to worst record and with the second pick, I was set to draft Dale Murphy, not ML ready just like Clark. I had a shot at Jack Morris, but wanted to stick to my original plan. I already had Guidry in the minors, not ready for a few seasons and Vern Ruhle and Bob Knepper ready to some up to start the 74 season. I selected the 5 year offer for Murphy and the only button I had was skip to end. The button for the selection to take place was not there. Couldn't keep going if I can't draft my own players. Still have 2011 Yankees with tru life transactions going and almost to the All Star game. It has been crazy. I have some serious pop going on. My top three SPs - Sabathia 14-2, Colon 12-3, AJ Burnett 13-3, all low 3 something eras. Swisher 20 HRs, 67 RBIs, Texeira 20-77, Granderson 27-81. Their record so far is 52-19. My house rules of stealing second only within a certain number of Cs arm and Ps hold runners still has Jeter with 67 speed and Gardner with 82 both sitting at around 35 steals. I only try to steal third if two runners within range or C and P numbers and I attempt the double steal. The rest of my lineup has at least 12 HRs, RBIs in the 40s,except Jeter and Gardner. I used to wait for a player to go brown to give him a day off but wasn't happening enough. So with the Yankees, when a player goes green, he gets the day off. My house rules to force the bench into more playing time. I have noticed over the last month that most of my wins have been coming late in the game rather than dominating from the beginning like the season started. I have injuries set at 450 for both players and pitchers, but haven't had but two DL visits. The rest have been small stuff. My house rule is 10 or more and it is off to the DL. Lesser injuries, they still ride the bench, which limits my access, but I stick to it even though ai managers use injured players, I don't. I don't know how it will end, but I just had my first transaction of obtaining a RP that just pitched against me in the last game, but not good enough to make the ML roster. I look forward to those surprise messages. My biggest challenge will be to decide what to do after I finish this one.

Still playing a replay season from last year with Puresim. Don't know if I'll play it much beyond that. I've mostly moved on to Digital Diamond baseball, which is a game on the rise rather than on the decline as Puresim is. Still can't beat the animated ball flight and sounds of Puresim, but there are so many bugs and flaws that need to be fixed but obviously won't be. Just need a game with active development and user participation at this point. If PS ever gets back to that point, I will certainly return to it.

I know I saw this before but I didn't think it was ever free. Anyway I am playing this now because I just was searching for laptops that were cheap to play baseball sim games on and then I decided to do a search for baseball sims to see if anything interesting popped up. I did it on Ebay and in the Google search engine and came across this eventually. I like much of what I see with this and heck it is free. I believe I saw where we can donate money to the developer of this game and in the future I will do so. Btw I play APBA and Dave Koch baseball and have played various other games in the past and so really I will give any baseball sim a chance. I love baseball sims and that is why I am playing this now.

I have OOTP, but I still play PS almost daily.
For me, it strikes the PERFECT balance between simple/quick-to-play/easy with the necessary complexities of management and in-game strategy. As a benefit, it's a low-power/low-resource game, which allows me to play it on even the simplest and most restrictive of PCs (like my under-powered portable 11" laptop and my work PC).
In addition, there's a sentimental bond that I just can't let go- I first started playing this when it was PureSim 2005! Then through 2007, Gold Editions, etc. We've been through so much together... as corny and tacky as it may sound (I don't care) it would be like losing a friend.

Also, just to add to that, I manage EVERY ONE of my team's games. Yes.
EVERY. SINGLE. GAME.
(of my team, of course)
Years and years of games, multiple associations (about 8-10) and yet still, I never sim anything beyond "Sim Current Day" after I played mine. The lone exclusion when we hit the post-season and if my team didn't make it. At that point I just want to end the season as quickly as possible so that I can rebuild and win next year!

Does SB still play with the same flaws that PS had (see page 1 of this thread).
What do all these new ratings represent? There is absolutely no information in the 66 page manual about the ratings.

Which ratings are you curious about?
Give us specifics on which ones and I can provide whatever info I know.
On why I still play this game, note that I play OOTP XXI as well. However, the reason I have amd play both games is the same reason why I own more than one pair of shoes. Sometimes I am in the mood for one thing, sometimes I am in the mood for another; sometimes I want to wear something that is flashy and stylish, sometimes I want to wear something convenient and comfortable. It's the same with the games.
PSB is quick to start up, not too detailed or involved, and you can breeze through games rather quickly; sometimes I am into that.
OOTP is much more intricate, detailed, precise and involved. Sometimes I am in to that.
I still play PSB because, like an old pair of sneakers, it's got a few miles on it but it's still comfortable, familiar and it still does its job. Perhaps there's a little emotional attachment there too?

Which ratings are you curious about? Give us specifics on which ones and I can provide whatever info I know. What is Endurance for a hitter? How is it different from Durability? How is Endurance for a pitcher different from Stamina? What do they actually affect? What does Intelligence affect? What do Stuff, Movement and Command specifically affect? You would think in 66 pages some of this would be explained. Also, is it possible to turn off the last 10 ratings, they don't interest me at all. (values money, ethics etc..)

Before I answer those questions, I have a couple of follow-up inquiries for you:
1. Where do you see Endurance for a hitter?
2. Where do you see Intelligence?
3. Where do you see Movement?
4. Where do you see Command?
(are we looking at the same game, here?)
5. Stuff is a random X-Factor value, something like Moxie or Luck, that factors a little into everything. It reflects how much of IT the pitcher has, how much of that special something. It doesn't specifically affect one thing- it sort of affects them all.
6. I know that when you create a league, you can dismiss the financial model; however, I don't believe you can remove ethics. Though, the fact that you are contemplating this makes me want to ask if you're in politics...

I know how to make ratings for PureSim. Or at least have a pretty good understanding and some formulas. But Strategy Baseball added a bunch of ratings that are not at all intuitive.
